Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School is a 1988 TV-movie produced for syndication by Hanna-Barbera Productions and distributed by Great American Broadcasting, as part of the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 package. Based upon the popular 1979 Hanna-Barbera series Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, the film features Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Scrappy-Doo becoming gym teachers at a school for daughters of famous monsters.

Plot

Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy Doo are on their way to a Miss Grimwood's Finishing School for Girls, where they have been hired as gym teachers. Once there, however, they find that it is actually a school for girl ghouls. The pupils include Sibella, the daughter of Count Dracula; Elsa Frankenteen, the daughter of Frankensteen Senior, plus she's a teen girl; Winnie, the daughter of a werewolf; Phantasma (usually called Phanty for short), the daughter of the Phantom Father; and Tanis (which is a parody of an Egyptian city), the Mummy Daddy's daughter. Other residents of the school are Miss Grimwood, the headmistress, and her pet dragon Matches (who dislikes Scooby at first, but later becomes friends, and has a strong liking for Scrappy). She has a hand in a white glove, and blue octopus butler and sharks in the moat, around the school.

Gym class soon starts, with the intent to train the girls for their upcoming volleyball match against the boys of the neighboring Calloway Military Academy (who have always beaten them). As an additional plot twist, Revolta, the self-styled Witch of the Web, plans to kidnap the girls and make them her slaves in order to control their parents, who had previously warned Shaggy and Scooby not to let any harm come to their girls. Despite being well-liked by all their students, Shaggy and Scooby run away when monsters such as the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Godzilla enroll their daughters at the school the following year.

Character Profiles

Elsa Frankenteen

Elsa is the oldest of the Grimwood girls. She's a Frankenstein of about 14 years old, who loves science. Elsa is close to Tanis, and Phantasma. Like all Frankensteins, her movements are a little slow, and does tend to point out the obvious; however, she is bright, strong, and tenacious, and has two hearts. Elsa is tall, pale, with black hair with a white streak, and has many stitches. Her outfit consists of a green dress over a light green t-shirt with chunky sandals. She gave her father a "portable shockman" (a play on a walkman). Her father says that when he uses the shockman "This put volts in my bolts!" Unlike all the girls, she speaks like a tomboy instead of a normal girl voice.

Phantasma

Phantasma is a phantom/ghost of about 13 years old. She is pretty, loves playing the organ and writes her own songs, at which she is quite talented. She is silly, wacky, but is actually smarter than she appears; she also loves to play, fly, and run around. She has a very high-pitched laugh that she uses whenever she is happy. She is the most artistic and is close to Elsa. Her outfit consists of a pale, short-sleeved blue dress, white cowboy boots; she has wide eyes, icy-blue skin, and white hair worn in a sideways ponytail with a blue streak. Her gift to her father was a composition which she wrote and played with Miss Grimwood's hand keyboard while her octopus butler on drums. It was called 'Duet for Three Hands and Six Tentacles'.

Sibella Dracula

Sibella is a vampire of about 12 years old. She is the pretty one out of the girls, and enjoys rough sports as much as the other girls. She likes to make puns on words related to vampires, like "fangtastic" and is the most talkative. She is often the one who runs errands, and is always happy to help. Sibella is close to both Winnie and Tanis. She has long purple hair, light purple skin, red lips, and green eyes, and her outfit consists of a purple dress with a slit, red high-heeled shoes, and a red belt. Her gift to her father was a "bat robe". She made one for herself too, but fire-proof for Matches. Her father loved it, as it was very useful on rainy nights. When he tried it on in a mirror just the robe showed and not him. Shaggy commented tha it was "no reflection on him".

Winnie

Winnie is a werewolf of about 9 years old. She is athletic, bossy, brave, tough and sometimes overconfident; often howling at almost every oppurtunity. She is close to both Sibella and Tanis. Winnie is short, has brown fur, curly, bright orange hair, and yellow eyes. Her outfit consists of a blue dress with the sleeves cut off. Her gift to her father was a "Juicer" shaped like a sarcophagus with large spikes inside, the juice come out of the top. It made bitter lemonade, which her father loved as it made his whiskers pucker.

Tanis

Tanis is a mummy of about 6 years old, and is the youngest of the girls. She is not very confident, until she gets a trophy for volleyball. Tanis is dependent and playful, and tries her hardest at whatever she does. She is close to both Winnie and Sibella. Her outfit consists entirely of white bandages. The wrappings around her body are designed to look like she is wearing a long-sleeved white dress. Her feet are also wrapped to represent white shoes, and her head consists of wrappings, as well as a small ponytail tied with a dark pink bow, possibly to keep them from falling out. She wears a black mask around her blue eyes like all mummies have, has white skin and her mouth is uncovered to enable her to talk. Her legs aren't covered with bandages. Her gift to her father was a red fright light "to brighten the darkest mummy case", in the shape of a mummy's tomb with a lid that can open and close. Her father tells her that it is a thoughtful gift. She often likes to suck her thumb on some occasions due to her young age. Sometimes, her wrappings come off on some occasions, like when she does ballet, the more she twirls, the more her bandages come off from underneath her. She happily says that ballet makes her unwind. Another time is when Miss Grimwood is re-wrapping her up because of all the exercise she was involved in. The wraps seem to come mostly from the middle of her body. In volleyball, she serves the ball with her bandages. At one point when the Calloway boys tried to cheat when she served, they made the ball go up into the trees which dragged her up along with her wrappings onto the tree branch since the bandages were attached to the volleyball. She loses the most of her wrappings in this scene. She relates to Tootie from The Fairly Oddparents at some points during the movie, like when she does ballet, (Tootie was involved in a Cream puffs pageant in the episode "Oh, Brother!" in which she was the lead ballet dancer.) when after Matches blow-dried her causing her bandages to shrink, Shaggy tried shaking her and trying to place her bow back in properly in which he did, Tanis looked up at him and said "Thanks Shaggy" and then she started jumping off with the Cadets being annoyed by it. (Timmy got kinda annoyed when Tommy suggested that "they" can go to Tootie's pageant and Tootie jumped after them at recess.) and when she toke Revolta's wand and ran off with it. (Tootie finds Cosmo and Wanda's wands underneath the bed in her room and Timmy tried to chase her running off with them around the house that he wrecked.) The Grim Creeper tried to chase Tanis too, but Matches blew fire on him. Tanis then went up to Scooby disguised as a frog under Revolta's spell and changed him back to normal. (Tootie threw the wands that she took into the toy box)

  • Phantasma is quite possibly the daughter of Erik, of the movie Phantom of the Opera
  • Tanis relates to Tootie from the Fairly Oddparents a bit during the movie, like when she did ballet and she said "OOH!!". (Tootie gasped when something surprised her when Timmy arrived at her pageant), when Shaggy tried to put her bow back in properly after she got blow-dried by Matches and she said "Thanks, Shaggy" and started jumping off which annoyed some of the Calloway boys. (Timmy got a little annoyed when Tommy suggested that "they" go to Tootie's pageant and Tootie was jumping off following Tommy everywhere), and ran off with Revolta's wand and Revolta asked The Grim Creeper to stop her from getting the wand but Matches stopped him by breathing fire on him.  (When Tootie found Cosmo and Wanda's wands in the episode "Homewrecker", she forced Timmy to chase her everywhere around the house that he wrecked with her running off and Timmy trying to catch her) Tanis got up to Scooby disguised as a toad from Revolta's spell she used the wand to change him back to normal. (Tootie threw the wands that she got into the toy box in front of her so Timmy couldn't find them.)  External links
