Overview

The Mystery Inc. team investigate a mysterious legend at the museum; when the moon is full the "Black Knight" (an ancient suit of armor, originally from England), comes to life!

Plot

The episode starts with an unknown man driving his truck somewhere. In the back is a case which contains a black knight, which supposedly attacks the driver.

Meanwhile, Shaggy and Scooby are walking home from a movie when they discover the man's truck. The Black Knight is in the driver's seat, but no one is in it. So the two get Fred, Velma, and Daphne to come and help. They discover that the man was Jameson Hyde White of London, England, and that he was taking the knight to the county museum.

So the gang arrives at the museum with the black knight, where the curator, Mr. Wickles, tells them the legend of the black knight: It is supposed to come alive when the moon is full and cause mayhem. Scooby, with his own mind, finds a pair of glasses which belong to Hyde White. Fred deduces that there is something fishy going on in the museum, and tells them that they will break in and solve the mystery that night.

That night, Shaggy helps the rest of the gang break in. They split up and investigate: Scooby, Velma, and Shaggy go into group while Fred and Daphne go in another. During the search, they lose Shaggy, but he comes back and helps Velma escape from the Black Knight, who has come alive. Scooby follows soon after. They meet back up with Fred and Daphne with who they discover that the villain is switching their fake pieces of art with the real ones in the museum. The Black Knight appears again and gives chase, but Shaggy and Scooby defeat him via airplane. The knight is then revealed to be none other than Wickles.

The gang then calls the police. Wickles is arrested, and Hyde White is found trapped inside one of the figures. He explains that he was the only one who could spot the fake pieces of art, so Wickles had to kidnap him. Wickles also made up the legend of the Black Knight.

Trivia

  • The scene where Fred says Shaggy needs to go up the ladder up in the window has been cut on Cartoon Network and Boomerang its on the video/dvd releases Cartoon Network Scooby-Doo's Original Mysteries.
  • Velma lost her glasses. How did she get them back? Shaggy gave them back to her, while looking for her and Scooby.
  • The Black Knight's red crest dissappears and reappears in the same scene between cuts, and once more during the chase.
  • The opening is different in the original broadcast, instead of showing the usual scene of the gang ruining it instead shows a picture of Scooby-Doo and Shaggy looking at the black knight ghost. The theme is also different. This and the episode after it (A clue for Scooby Doo) use the same theme as well different opening. However all of the rebroadcast up until the 90's used the familar opening and theme. This was corrected on the DVD because it uses the original opening.
